Meeting your Solicitor

The prospect of visiting a Solicitor for the first time can be a little daunting, but there is really nothing to worry about - we are here to help you! At Redferns Solicitors Weymouth & Portland Solicitors we offer a free 30 minute interview to discuss your situation. In order to start dealing with your case as swiftly as possible we would advise that you bring the following (if available) to your first meeting:

  • Photographic ID eg: Passport, Photocard Driver's Licence
  • Proof of address in the form of a recent utility bill
We will be happy to discuss Public Funding (also known as Legal Aid) eligibility at our initial meeting with you. We will need to have sight of a document confirming your income, eg:
  • wage slips covering the last 3 months
  • a letter or other document confirming your receipt of state benefits/tax credits

If you refer to the "What will it Cost?" section, you will find a link to the CLS Fund Eligibility Calculator operated by the Legal Services Commission. Please use this as a guide. If it appears that you are eligible, then it would be helpful if you were to print off the information and result when prompted to do so and bring it to your meeting with us. If appropriate, we can then complete with you the necessary CLS Application Forms.

Access to Our Offices

Both our Weymouth offices are on first floor levels and as such we would recommend Clients who are in need of easier access to visit our Portland office which is situated at ground floor level. Our staff are very willing to help Clients up stairs with prams, walking aids etc but as an alternative all of our Solicitors are willing to visit Clients at home in appropriate circumstances and at no extra charge.
